Camp ASCCA Journal - Therapeutic Recreation

Hi, my name is Wylone Brewer. I have been at Camp ASCCA for 12 years. I was raised in Jackson’s Gap but moved away when I married. We have been back in the area now for a long time. I am married and have two sons, two grandsons and a third one on the way. My husband is retired and we enjoy camping and spending time with our family. I belong to Jackson’s Gap Baptist Church and enjoy working on the social committee.

I found out about this job through the help wanted ads in the local newspaper. I called for an interview and was so excited when they called me to come to work. I was hired for a newly created position, secretary. I worked full time for ten years and have been part time for the past two years. My job consists of many different responsibilities, but the biggest one is accepting applications, processing them and sending out the confirmation package. We do this for the summer camping sessions and also for the weekend camps we have during our off season.

I do not get to be with the campers as much as I would like, but I feel like I know each of them from working with the application. I love Camp ASCCA and its mission: serving children and adults with disabilities.
