Getting Ready for a Summer of Fun

I recently sat down with Camp Director Matt Rickman to talk about the plans he’s been making for this summer and the different groups that will be coming in. He noted that the summer schedules pretty much stay the same, but they do evaluate and make adjustments every year. Camp ASCCA’s goal is to try to add something new every year, like golf and bocce.
They have a good system in place to ensure the programs they offer and the schedules they plan work well and make everybody happy. “At the end of each week during the summer,” Matt said, “we’ll make notes on the schedule and evaluate. That helps us plan for the next year.”
So this year, he’s been looking at the schedules from last year and collaborating with the leaders of different groups that have come in the past to put together a good schedule. They can look back at evaluations from the previous year to see what campers enjoyed the most, what they maybe weren’t as interested in, and combining that with the new activities available this year, are able to put together a really fun week for the campers!
Camp ASCCA has several groups already scheduled for summer, including the American Lung Association’s Camp Wheeze-Away and the Alabama Post-Adoption Connection (APAC), as well as the sessions Camp ASCCA puts on to bring in independent campers. Working with these groups and others, Camp ASCCA has put together a full and exciting schedule for the summer.
