No Child Left Inside

The other day, I came across a topic in a Google Group for outdoor education that talked about a program called “No Child Left Inside.†This struck me as rather amusing, because it plays off of the “No Child Left Behind†education initiative. That’s actually a pretty effective strategy – to find a witty way to tie the name of your organization or project to an already existing one with a very recognized name. (Bravo there!)
James Neill, who started the topic, writes, “The time is ripe for a Leave No Child Inside movement. Western society is sending an unintended message to children: Nature is the past, electronics are the future and the bogeyman lives in the woods.â€

Camp ASCCA is certainly a proponent of outdoor education, and we have many programs here that help introduce young people to some of the wonders of nature.
According to Josh Rhodes, the camp’s environmental education director, “The best part about an outdoor education program, is the thought that is provoked within the child. When children start asking lots of questions, that’s when you know they’re interested in learningâ€
