Here we go!

Well, today marks the start of our busy-busy summer season! Campers started arriving for the weekend-long Council of Nephrology Social Workers (CNSW) Kidney Camp this evening. They are expecting a little more than 160 campers for the weekend — so we have a full house!

This group has been coming to Camp ASCCA for 20 years now! Campers will do a lot of fishing and socializing this weekend, and have the opportunity to play bingo, do arts and crafts, go on boats rides and more!

…the CNSW Kidney Camp is at Camp ASCCA this weekend…

Talking to Camp Director Matt Rickman, I discovered that all the campers are dialysis patients, which means they’ll either have to do their treatments while there here over the weekend, or do it on Friday before they come (and arrive later in the day on Friday) and Sunday as soon as they leave. Matt also noted that many of the campers also have diabetes.

They have a fun weekend ahead of them, though! “They’re a very fun and social group,” Matt said. “And they LOVE to fish! They’ll be doing a lot of that. It’ll be an enjoyable couple of days.”

We’ll be sure to post some pictures from the group’s activities tomorrow …
