Just a regular day at Kidney Camp!

Well, today is officially my last day at Camp ASCCA as the PR intern. They’re bringing on two bright and talented students from Auburn University for the summer semester, so not to worry! Many posts about all the exciting summer camp happenings to come!

But I’m delighted to be out at Camp today, since I haven’t really had a chance to be here for a weekend camp yet in my time here. It’s a little bittersweet. :-) I’m enjoying meeting and being around the campers and everyone. I walked down to the fishing pond for a little while this morning to chat with some folks and take some pictures.

Even for the while I was down there, they were having great success! I don’t know much about fish, so I can’t say what they were catching … but several were caught while I was there.

I got to talk to a lovely woman named Mary, who’s pictured here sitting on the railing. She’s been coming to this camp with her mother for two years now. “My mother just loves to fish,” she said. “So we’ve been coming for a couple years, and she just really enjoys it!”

I meant to catch the cooking demonstration that just wrapped up a little while ago, but got distracted chatting with someone and missed it! Walking over and seeing how many people were coming from it, looks like it had a good turn out!

Looks like this afternoon, the schedule offers more fishing and boat rides, plus horseback riding, nature trails, and arts and crafts. After dinner, campers and staff can look forward to a Mardi Gras themed celebration in the Dining Hall, and then a campfire and marshmallow roast. Tomorrow will be pretty low-key and the weekend will come to an end around 10:30 a.m.
