Livin’ High on the Hog!

I believe most people, especially those of us in the south, have heard the expression “living high on the hog” or feeling like you are in “hog heaven” - right?

Well, campers WERE in “hog heaven” this past Sunday when several of the Hog Chapters from Alabama/Florida visited the campers attending the MDA Camp here at Easter Seals Camp ASCCA. Many “biker” groups throughout the nation hold fundraisers and benefit rides to support Muscular Dystrophy Associations.

The “2006 Wheels for Wheels” event rolled in during the late afternoon and boy was it loud! Some of the campers got to sit on the hogs and rev up the engines, others were happy just to go around the parking lot and view all of the different cycles. Volunteers and MDA staff were also placing “biker” tattoos on the arms of the many children. The tattoos are the removable ones, of course.

Pictured is the large “Heart of Dixie” group who raised the most funds this year for MDA of Alabama. The group was given an award for the most raised, which was $6,000! In talking to some of the bikers, I found out that the whole group raised in the neighborhood for $14-15,000! Way to go!
