Overcoming fear…

Fear is the one thing that stops most people from doing what they want. Fear of heights, fear of water, etc. Here at camp, people do face some of these fears and some overcome them.

At the zipline, a tower that is 15 feet tall, campers pull themselves up and ride down a zipline to a platform that is between 100 and 150 feet away.

So many of these campers have overcome so much… then they come to camp and conquer a fear

Donald Wood sat with me and told me that he didn’t want to go down the zipline. I told him he didn’t have to, but the guy on the platform, Jonathan Daughtry was a really nice guy that would love it if he went up there to see him. And that Jonathan wouldn’t let anything happen to him.

Donald starred at Jonathan for a moment and said “okay.” He then got up to get a harness on. After getting harnessed up and a helmet on, Donald started to get scared again. He let two of his group members go before him and watched them go down.

Donald made an agreement with one of his counselors, Megan Killion, that he would go up if she stood with him while they helped him pull himself up the rope onto the tower. So she stood there and Donald (and members of the high adventure crew) pulled him to the top of the platform.

The video below is of Donald on the platform with Jonathan. The video is 5.92 MB and is 3:16 long.
