Starfleet International
Star Trek fans unite! This weekend, the Starfleet International southeast region chose Camp ASCCA as its meeting place for 2006. Starfleet chapters from Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida visited Camp ASCCA for the weekend event.
Starfleet is an organization of Star Trek and general science-fiction enthusiasts that have united in their appreciation of Star Trek. This unique organization has over 240 chapters worldwide, from Canada to New Zealand. One of the largest fan associations in the world, the group is a collection of people of all ages and from all walks of life. Their goals are: to make new friends, share interests in Star Trek, to serve the community, and to have fun. Each club member brings his or her special abilities to the group, and these abilities are recognized by assigning fictional ranks within the fleet. Each chapter is also involved, within its community, in various charitable functions ranging from the Humane Society to Hurricane Katrina relief.
This was Starfleet’s first voyage to Camp ASCCA, but hopefully not the last. Several members expressed interest in this becoming an annual event for their chapters. The group had informational meetings for some of its newest members, but perhaps their most enjoyable activity was sword fighting. The group brought with them a variety of homemade weapons. Members were taught different strikes and blocks and then participated in friendly sparing.
We thouroughly enjoyed the Starfleet International group and eagerly await their visit next year. Below is a set of interviews with John, Larry, and Sunny from Starfleet. The video is 2:59 in length and is a 4.6 mb download.
