Several weeks ago Camp ASCCA was visited by a very special group of people. They came from across the country, brought together by the Lakeshore Foundation. Over the next several days I hope to put together more stories about this weekend.
Nathan Waters introduces their story…
I would like to mention a weekend we had September 29th through October 1st. I know that was a few weeks ago, but it was a weekend worth mentioning. Lakeshore Foundation out of Birmingham teamed up with us for “Operation Adventureâ€. Lakeshore brought wounded veterans from the Iraq War to participate in some outdoor activities. Some of the activities offered were sit-skiing, kayaking, scuba diving (in the pool), wheelchair basketball, and the climbing tower.
I was privileged to watch these men and woman climb our accessible tower. It was very inspiring to see the determination they had while climbing. We actually have some video of one soldier climbing for those of you who would like to watch. The weekend was amazing and a great success. I believe the soldiers had a blast. I would like to personally thank Lakeshore for a great weekend and for bringing the soldiers. I also would like to thank the veterans for fighting for our country.

Way to go ASCCA! It warms my heart to know that good folks like the Lakeshore foundation and ASCCA are giving back to the men and women who sacrificed so much in serving our country. As an avid climber I can attest to the therapeutic value of the sport.
Thought you might like to know (or share with Lakeshore) a desitination that provides similar kindness to veterans. It’s Florian Villa (www.florianvilla.com if you permit urls in comments). It’s a tropical paradise and scuba getaway for those who need it most.
Thanks so much for helping our troops!
