Family Thanksgiving at ASCCA
It’s an
annual tradition for the Rickman family living here at Camp ASCCA. Every Thanksgiving holiday we take turns with our families to host a Thanksgiving vacation/dinner. This year marks the third year for my side of the family to visit.
Most people arrived on Wednesday, and the rest on Thursday…a total of about 43, I think. This group is the Barocco Family, which is my stepdad’s family. It’s a big group, with most of them arriving from the New Orleans area.
We’ve taken a boat ride, combed the shoreline for shells and rocks, canoed, played cards, basketball, the Ziptower, riflery, and fished. Oh, and I cannot forget the exciting scavanger hunt my stepdad Joe and my mom hosted last night. My nephew Richie, from Texas, won! I had never actually participated in a hunt here at ASCCA, and it was fun!
On Friday we celebrated our Thankgiving dinner in the basement of the Lions/Rotary Lodge. I think we fried two turkeys, baked two, and also had a ham and a Turducken, which is a duck inside of a chicken inside of a turkey with a little New Orleans spice added to it.
Our Thanksgiving prayer was of course, to thank the Lord for all we have, but was also dedicated to Aunt Cindy who she
and her family couldn’t be with us this year for medical reasons. It wasn’t the same without you Cindy!!!
After we stuffed ourselves, much of the family headed up to our house to watch the LSU/Arkansas game. (yes, we even had some Razorbacks here too).
Tonight is “movie night” and cards and scrabble again, then some are headed home tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving from Camp ASCCA!
