For those of us interested in serving people with disabilities with recreation opportunities, I can’t think of a more inspirational film. Emmanuel’s Gift.

…movies have always been a great source of inspiration for mehow about you?…

The 2005 film has a web site. It is, on one hand, a disturbing story of life in a culture that doesn’t accept disabilities. On the other hand, it is a story of triumph where Emmanuel changes those stereotypical views through his athletic pursuits and engaging personality.

The story revolves around sports. Cycling. Emanueal takes a bike ride across Ghana to prove that stereotypes about people with disabilities are flawed and unfair.

If you are born disabled in Africa, it is likely you will be poisoned, left to die by your family or abandoned on the street. This extraordinary documentary is the story of Emmanuel, a disabled Ghanaian who aims to change attitudes in his country. The film is narrated by Oprah Winfrey, and the winner of many awards.
