Greater Titusville Civitan Donation
I visited the Greater Titusville Civitan Club in Birmingham yesterday. What a nice, generous, and hard-working group of people! Each month, the club sponsors a service project, and for January Camp ASCCA benefited from a donation of blankets for our cabins!
While visiting the club, I had the chance to give a presentation on Camp ASCCA, specifically highlighting the Dadeville Campus. Civitans in Alabama have been big sponsors of the Dadeville Campus (formerly known as Camp Civitan). The camp was donated to Camp ASCCA back in 1994, and we have been providing camping experiences for people with mental disabilities there ever since!
I am shown in the picture accepting the donations of the blankets with the club president, Ms. Virginia Volker.
A little more about Civitan and the Titusville Civitan Club…
Civitan is a service club organization encouraging citizenship and community service since 1917. Civitan’s purpose is to provide members with opportunities for personal and professional development while improving communities through hands-on service. Civitan’s focus is on helping people with developmental disabilities. Each Civitan club chooses its own community service and fund-raising projects.
The Titusville Club is in its 9th year and is part of Civitan International. The Titusville Club is also one of several clubs located in primarily African American communities and exemplifies the diversity that Civitan has enjoyed. The club meets the first Wednesday of every month at noon at Leonard’s Barbecue in Birmingham.
