Valentine’s Dinner and Dance Fundraiser

It’s no secret that Camp ASCCA relies on fundraisers and donations to provide the high quality services we offer. One of our annual fundraisers is the Ina Watson Memorial Valentine’s Dinner and Dance, held in the Civitan Activity Hall at the Camp ASCCA Dadeville Campus. 2007 marked the 12th year for this event.

Wanda Ryals, President of the Tallapoosa County Chapter of Easter Seals Alabama, coordinated this year’s event. Lydia Staples and Camp ASCCA’s Dana Rickman and Maggie England were among the 20 members of the Valentine’s Dinner and Dance Committee that helped with the planning and decorations.

The evening began with a candlelit steak dinner that, by all accounts, was delicious. Laeman Butcher, who owns and operates the Piggly Wiggly in Dadeville, provided the filets. Mr. Butcher’s son and grandson helped him prepare and grill the steaks. Piggly Wiggly of Dadeville was also recognized as an Orchid Sponsor for giving more than $1000 to this year’s event.

Following the meal, guests were treated to music from the band Kidd Blue. Their music ranged from classic oldies to jazz and it wasn’t long before the dance floor was filled with couples grooving to the melodies. The silent auction also began after dinner and featured close to 100 items available for bidding. The auction featured a broad selection that included gift certificates from various businesses, artwork, clothing, and footballs signed by Tommy Tuberville and Nick Saban.

Check back tomorrow for more on the auction.

We would like to give a special thanks to the following Camellia Sponsors: Olivia Byrd, Sandra Davenport, Dr. & Mrs. Jerry Swindall, and Skilstaf Inc.. These sponsors donated $500 or more to this year’s event. We would also like to thank the Central Alabama Community College Ambassadors who volunteered to help serve dinner to our guests. The Valentine’s Dance was a huge success again this year and we thank all those who attended and donated items for the auction.
