Castone and Opelika Kiwanis
On Thursday, March 1, Maggie and I visited the Castone Corporation in Opelika, AL and the Opelika Kiwanis Club. Castone and Opelika Kiwanis made generous financial donations to Camp ASCCA, and we visited both to say Thank You.
Despite the thunderstorms, we made a safe trip down Highway 280 to Opelika for our first stop, the Castone Corporation. Castone Corp. produces high quality architectural precast concrete products. A few buildings in their portfolio are: Atlanta/Hartsfield International Airport, Atlanta Olympic Stadium, Turner Field, and the Birmingham Civic Center. Needless to say, they have been involved in some very impressive projects.
Our contact at Castone was Sandy James, Vice-President and General Manager. I can’t say enough good things about Sandy. He was very gracious while introducing us to his employees and discussing how Camp ASCCA had touched his heart. Maggie showed one of our camp videos and afterwards we told some personal stories and opened the floor for questions. It was really encouraging to hear the interest from the men in attendance. Some had only heard about Camp ASCCA, while others knew campers who had attended in previous summers. Pictured, at right, is Maggie and Sandy James.
The second destination of the day was Saugahatchee Country Club, in Opelika, for the Opelika Kiwanis meeting. Once again, we were guests of Mr. James and he introduced us to Corinne Hurst, Club President. A delicious buffet was provided for lunch. After the meeting began, we were greeted as honored guests and were given a few minutes to speak to their organization.
We thanked them for their continued support of Camp ASCCA and Maggie shared a personal story about one of her favorite campers, Toni. Pictured with me, at left, are Maggie, Corinne Hurst, and Sandy James.
We greatly appreciate the contributions of Castone and the Opelika Kiwanis Club. Camp ASCCA continues to offer high quality services and programs because of the generosity of businesses and civic groups such as these two organizations.

Barclay, what a GREAT blog! You very much captured the essence of both those working at Castone Corporation and the members of the Opelika Kiwanis Club. They were so very kind in welcoming us! I also want to give special thanks again to Sandy James and Tammy at Castone!
