Anchor Club :: Field Games - The Spandex Slingshot and The Mine Field
Well, I’m sure that headline got your attention. But, how else to describe a game where you get inside a large spandex ring and allow it to slingshot you past one another. The faster you run, the more fun it is, but … ya’ gotta be careful in the process. Don’t go too fast.
To me, the game resembles a sort of spandex demolition derby … with people. It is also kind of similar to those carnival rides that make you a wee bit dizzy.
The key is - you have to pay attention and work together. If everyone is aware of what their teammates are doing, the game becomes a fun and wild ride. Amber leads the groups in the fun.
The other game is called Mine Field. But, it could also be called “Mind” field. You have to use your mind to listen and succeed. We like this game because it - in part - helps the students recognize what it might be like to lose one of their senses - sight. We like any game that makes you think about lifestyles lived by people with disabilities. In this case, it is people with visual impairments.
That said, I’m sure that blind people appreciate not having lots of people yelling at them all the time. You’ll understand when you watch the video.
In Mine Field, one participant wears a blindfold and must listen to the commands and directions from their teammates. The field is littered with mines - and rewards. The idea is to avoid all mines and retrieve the rewards. Adrianne and Joseph are the leaders for this game.
The video below is of the Anchor Club conference and is an 11.3 MB download and lasts 6:35 minutes. Enjoy.
