St. James School spent three days at Camp ASCCA for an enviornmental science retreat. The school has brought its fifth grade classes to camp every spring for the past 12 years.
for an enviornmental retreat…
During the enviornmental retreat the students participated in many activities such as the the ziptower, group elements, lake testing, maps and GPS, project wild and living stream where they collect macroinvertebrates. Students also participated in step out and fish where they were able to learn techniques about fishing from Doug Darr, of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
St. James’ principal, Jim Terry, has been coming to Camp ASCCA for years. He first became involved with the camp through Camp Seale Harris as camper and later as a counselor. He now returns to camp every year as a chaperone for the 5th graders.
Mr. Terry talks with us about the experiences he has had here at camp and what knowledge he hopes his students will take home from the retreat. His interview can be viewed below. It is 3:41 in length and is an 6.0 download.
