Yesterday, the Demo Farm staff managed to fill up a whole box with
the first ripe vegetables from the vegetable garden. Regardless of the lack of rain so far this summer, the vegetables are big, colorful, and look and smell delicious.
…the vegetables are big, colorful, and look and smell delicious…
Among the vegetables harvested were cucumbers, yellow squash, different types of peppers, and tomatoes.
Campers can also expect to find potatoes, corn, okra, various herbs, and even watermelon this summer!
Almost all of the garden plots are raised so that they are accessible to people with all disabilities. One of the morning activities at ASCCA is to go out and pick the vegetables and deliver them to the
kitchen. Mrs. Gay has been known to cook special dishes using the fresh vegetables found in ASCCA’s garden!
From the looks of what we’ve seen so far, the meals in the dining hall should be pretty fabulous this summer!
