Montgomery Academy Senior Contributes to Camp ASCCA

On Friday, Alisha and I travelled to Montgomery, AL to receive a sort ofAlbert Copeland unusual donation. Albert Copeland, a senior at Montgomery Academy, chose Camp ASCCA as the subject of a research project and also as the recipient of a generous donation for our Campership Fund.

For the past three weeks, several students have been taking Philanthropy 101 at Montgomery Academy. They have studied how different non-profit organizations work and the significance and necessity of philanthropy for these organizations.

…We could really see and appreciate the personal interest he had taken in Camp ASCCA…

For their final project, each student chose a specific organization to research. Albert had been to Camp ASCCA on a field-trip in fifth grade, and visiting the Birmingham Children’s Hospital reminded him of the experience. He had been impressed with the camp and its mission even at such a young age, and he decided that we would be his organization to study.

Each student created a presentation about their organization, and Albert’s was completely informative and accurate. We could reallyAlbert and Alisha see and appreciate the personal interest he had taken in Camp ASCCA! Then, thanks to funds from the late Mr. James Samford, the students presented representatives from their organizations with a donation. Thanks to Albert’s decision to research Camp ASCCA, we will be able to provide a few more camperships this summer!

Other organizations researched include the Joy to Life Foundation, Fisherhouse, Miracle League, and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, among others. Everyone was genuinely impressed with these students’ knowledge of their chosen organizations and grateful for the interest they have taken in them!
