Laura Lee Comes to Camp ASCCA For the Twelfth Year

S unday afternoon was check-in for Camp ASCCA teen week and sports camp. I got the chance to talk with Laura Lee, who is here at Camp ASCCA for her twelfth summer.
…”She loves to just come and be with other kids who have the same challenges she has, and the same abilities she has”…
Laura Lee started coming to camp when she was seven years old, she found out about Camp ASCCA from her physical therapist. She keeps coming back to camp because she says it is fun and she likes all of the activities, counselors and staff members. Laura Lee said she has made many friends at Camp ASCCA and she keeps in touch with them during the year through email and the phone. Laura Lee also said her favorite activity at camp is tubing because she likes to go fast!
I was also able to talk to Laura Lee’s dad, Bruce. He told me during Laura Lee’s first year at camp they were apprehensive about leaving her but ever since bringing Laura Lee to Camp ASCCA has been their top priority of the summer. He believes that coming to Camp ASCCA is important because of the bonding time the campers get with counselors and fellow campers. He said Laura Lee “loves to just come and be with other kids with the same challenges she has and the same abilities she has, it is just a very great experience for her.”
Laura Lee is also very excited about the prom this week. She told me that Camp ASCCA prom is more fun that her high school prom! Laura Lee even brought her prom dress that she wore her senior year. We are looking forward to a great week with Laura Lee and our other awesome campers!
