Last Wednesday, Camp ASCCA honored a group of people that mean a great deal to us–Rotarians. Almost every building at camp is named after an Alabama Rotary Club, and much of what we do here is made possible by their generous donations. On “Rotary Day,” two members of the Alexander City Rotary Club paid us a visit–Mr. John Searcy and Mr. John Ferguson.
…Both men agree that Camp ASCCA is something in which they take pride…
Besides providing funds for Camp ASCCA through their Rotary Club, both Mr. Searcy and Mr. Ferguson have a personal involvement with camp. All three of Mr. Ferguson’s children have worked at Camp ASCCA, and his son, Craig, is currently a counselor. He says he and his wife make a trip to camp about two or three times a year, and they have gotten to know many of the campers. He enjoyed getting to see some of the activities last week, and he also says he is impressed with the renovations Camp ASCCA is seeing.
Mr. Searcy’s granddaughter, Hillary, is also being a counselor this summer. She has been a CIT since she was 15, and she is doing a great job with her campers! Mr. Searcy volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of Alexander City, and he came to camp to see the members of that club attending Sports Camp last week. Mr. Searcy has also worked with the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity during Push Camp, their annual visit to add to and repair camp. The Oscar C. Dunn Environmental Center impressed him the most of all, along with the many new touches to our other facilities.
Both men agree that Camp ASCCA is something in which they take pride, and they can’t imagine not supporting our efforts. Mr. Ferguson is also a member of the Lake Martin United Way, which gives to camp as well. The two men say that because of their ability to actually see what goes on at Camp ASCCA and the effect it has on so many people’s lives, they feel both obligated and privileged to make sure that it continues. Watch Mr. Searcy and Mr. Ferguson in the video below, and let them tell you about their visit and what Camp ASCCA means to them!
