Goodbye Nurse Carolyn

Last week Camp ASCCA said goodbye to one of the special people who have made this summer an awesome one. Nurse Carolyn Pace has been working on the nursing team all summer, but session four was her last week because she had to return to her full-time job as a school nurse.
…At camp she has a whole week to help the campers and really get to know them and she absolutely loves it…
Nurse Carolyn has always wanted to try camp nursing, when she saw a brochure for Camp ASCCA she knew it would be a perfect place because she has experience working with children with disabilities.
She loves working at camp not only because she enjoys the outdoors but because she has the opportunity to really get to know the campers. She told me that she is a floating nurse; she goes from school to school, so she is not able to see the kids everyday. At camp she has a whole week to help the campers and really get to know them, and she absolutely loves it.
When I asked her about being a camp nurse she said it was a lot of first aid type work and making sure the campers take their medications, and they are always teaching. Nurse Carolyn was very impressed with the way the counselors take care of the campers and make sure the campers are having the best time they can because camp gives them the opportunity to “do some of the things they would never experience in their normal lives.”
Nurse Carolyn’s enthusiasm and love for camp will be missed but I don’t think she will be gone too long because she told me that she wants to come back next year! Thank you nurse Carolyn for all you did this summer and thank you to the rest of our wonderful nurses who are making sure the rest of the summer is a very fun and safe one.
