This is Kirby Sullivan’s third summer at Camp ASCCA, and it probably won’t be his last. Kirby grew up close to camp in Alexander City and goes to school only forty-five minutes away at Auburn University. Whether he decides to return or not, however, Camp ASCCA’s impact will never leave him.
…Kirby, like so many counselors, has become hooked on the ASCCA natural high of helping others…
Kirby won’t hesitate to say that this summer has been a humbling experience. Physically, he says his biggest challenge has been transferring campers, especially during Teen Week. This, along with getting to know his campers, has taught him that it’s not all about him, and being at Camp ASCCA and helping other people is a rewarding experience.
He loves knowing that he’s made someone else’s week great, and that’s why the dance is what he especially looks forward to every week. On the last night of each session, the whole camp is together in one place, having a great time and remembering how much fun they’ve had.
Without further explanation, Kirby says he likes Camp ASCCA so much because it changed his life. It’s safe to say he’s not the only person who feels that way! Watch Kirby’s video to hear about his summer and his favorite camper.
