Jen Manning’s Hooked on Camp ASCCA

One summer was all it took to get Jen Manning absolutely hooked on Camp ASCCA. She spent last summer as a counselor, and she says she couldn’t quit thinking about camp after she left! She volunteered for as many special weekends as possible, and now she’s back as a Unit Leader.

…she couldn’t quit thinking about camp after she left…

Jen’s biggest challenge this summer has been adjusting to a new role. As a counselor she grew close to a few campers a week, but as a Unit Leader she has a broader range of responsibilities and must make an extra effort to really know the campers.Whether she realizes it or not, Jen has made her presence known. She introduced Pie-in-the-Face Bingo to our list of evening programs, and it was a huge hit last night! She also helped one Teen Week camper, Ryan Mercer, conquer a longtime fear–the zipline! Jen says that Ryan’s first time on the zipline is her favorite memory of the summer.

In the video below, Jen explains what being a Unit Leader means and gives her account of the Ryan Mercer story. Click on it to see this wonderful member of our staff!
