Peggy Long :: Camp Nurse, Putting The TLC in Camp ASCCA

Peggy Long, or “Nurse Peggy,” has been one of our camp nurses this summer, and she’s found a special place in our campers’ and staff members’ hearts. Nothing is ever boring when she’s around! She’s always singing or cracking jokes wherever she goes, and because of this, few people have minded having to take their medicine or go to the nurses’ station!

…it is the patience and TLC that Peggy and other nurses bring to camp every day that make ASCCA special…

Peggy is a retired army nurse and has done all kinds of nursing work, but Camp ASCCA is a first for her. She has never worked at a camp before, and the Special Olympics has been her only experience working with people with special needs. She found out about Camp ASCCA online and thought it might be something she’d like to do!

Peggy has immeasurable patience and a special, trustworthy manner when doing her job. This summer she’s been handing out pills and giving shots, and the campers still look forward to seeing her during her rounds. She’s also been very comforting to our staff when an unfortunate stomach bug made its way through camp!

Despite all of the “dirty work” she’s had to do, she says her biggest challenge was learning her way around camp! Meet Peggy and hear about Camp ASCCA from a nurse’s point of view by clicking the video below!
