Birmingham East Rotary Visit

Throughout the year, our staff has many opportunities to visit many different civic clubs, family organizations, women’s clubs, businesses, and churches to share the “Camp ASCCA story”.
The Birmingham-East Rotary Club has been a great friend to camp and our campers with disabilities for many, many years. Summer intern Whitney Shifflet, who of course you’ve heard a lot from this summer, had the chance to join me at the Rotary Club’s August 10th meeting!
As their guest speaker I shared a few minutes about Camp ASCCA, who we are, etc. then showed a wonderful slideshow presentation from one of our weeks of summer camp (created by our interns, of course). At these types of presentations I always tell a few stories about specific campers, specific events, etc., but to the Rotarians, NOTHING compares to hearing from a staff member who has directly interacted with the campers. Keeping this in mind, Whitney shared her experiences and did a fantastic job representing Camp ASCCA. There’s something about a young person sharing his/her summer experiences about camp!
From left to right in the photo are: President Danny Cooner, Whitney, me, and past Rotary 6860 District Governor, Don Hadden. By the way, Mr. Ron Layne is a member of this Rotary club as well as a faithful and generous member of our Board of Directors arranged for this presentation. Thanks Ron!
Did you know that Camp ASCCA is in Facebook? If you are too, please go on over and “Friend” Camp ASCCA and join the Camp ASCCA Facebook group, too.
