Camp ASCCA is a great supporter of Karen LeBow. You see, Karen, along with the support of other ARC staff and volunteers in the Macon, Georgia area, is the person responsible for sending us a terrific group of campers to camp for the past 6 years. This September will mark 30 years that Karen has worked as Community Service Manager for the Macon Advocacy
Resource Center. Their primary mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities in the middle Georgia area.
The camp duties are a chore she clearly relishes. Karen sends out, receives, and processes applications each year for the special group of campers that will attend the week long camp. Not only that, but Karen attends the camp herself and has been to all 6 camps. I spoke with Karen on Tuesday and she was clearly pleased to report an increase of 12 campers over last year’s numbers. Many campers have been in her program for years and look forward to their camp trip every year.
Karen was highly complimentary of the ASCCA staff and said the relationships her campers form with our staff is often a highlight of the trip for many campers. She was also very pleased with all the improvements of the facilities, such as the renovated Hoyt Webb Pavilion.
Karen and her staff and volunteers do a terrific job. Many of the volunteers are either parents of the campers or siblings. They are here to provide care, assistance, and supervision to their loved ones as well as to share the Camp ASCCA experience.
