Camp ASCCA :: Riflery

Bull’s-eye!! Our program staff has been working hard at the riflery range. Over the past two weeks of Camp Seale Harris our program staff has taught many campers how to safely load and fire a rifle.img_1554a.jpg

Our Camp ASCCA Program Staff for riflery has been consisting of Matt McMillan and Nathan McNair. They teach campers how to load a clip, put it into the gun, check the shaft, apply safety, fire at the target and then release the round. The program staff is excited to teach campers about the gun and how to use it safely. Each person shooting is required to wear safety glasses and ear/hearing protection. Also, other campers waiting to shoot must stay behind the shooter to ensure their safety.

McMillan and McNair stand close to the person shooting the firearm to assure the camper is performing each task correctly. They also take down each person’s score and determine who has the highest of the day, Which this week has been mainly girls. The staff is supportive of each camper shooting.

They let the person shooting determine how far out they want their target set out and then they fire away! The campers are excited to shoot a gun and for some of them it is their first time. They are attentive and awed by the accuracy of their fellow campers shots. They are allowed to keep their targets for proof to anyone who may question their abilities.
