Trying Something You’ve Never Done Before :: Scaling the Cargo Net

A few of Camp ASCCA’s goals are to try something you’ve never done before, to take yourself that one step farther and to turn fear into accomplishment.

Today I witnessed all of that at the cargo net. I saw girls who were nervous to climb that high and some who were not scared at all. They all accomplished their goals though. While someone was on the cargo net climbing to the top, the whole cabin was cheering for them. A girl got to a point in climbing when she didn’t think she could go any farther, but her cabin started chanting her name and she went a few more rungs up the net. She may not have reached the top, but she went farther than she thought she could. She accomplished a goal.

I talked to a few of the girls after they were done climbing. All of them acted happy to have completed the cargo net. They said it was fun and something they would do again in the future. They told me about their favorite activities and what they were looking forward to doing this week.

They were all excited to go to horseback, the pool and zip line. Some of them had done activities like these before, but for most of them it was their first time. A lot of them seemed to have no fear. They wanted to do it all and just have fun while they are here at camp.
