Alabama’s Special Camp for Children & Adults

A Day at The Pool

This week is Camp Seale Harris Junior camp. Junior camp is for children ages 6-12. We are seeing kids everywhere enjoying all of Camp ASCCA’s facilities and programs. img_2201a.jpg

Today I found a cabin playing in the pool. It could not have been a better day to be found poolside. The sun was shining and it was hot! The cabin that really caught my attention was pretty young. The children were with their counselor having a blast.

The counselor told me that her whole cabin is new to Camp ASCCA and Seale Harris. She said they are all really excited to experience everything that Camp ASCCA has. The campers were enjoying the pool and loving Camp ASCCA.

img_2202a.jpgThe new campers are learning different ways to handle diabetes, and they’re learning how they can live with diabetes. Camp Seale Harris thinks it is important to teach diabetic children that they can still do the same things as children without diabetes as long as they take care of themselves.

I think, from what I have personally seen over the past few weeks, that Camp Seale Harris is a great place for children with diabetes to learn the proper way to take care of themselves. Some children come to Camp Seale Harris not knowing how to draw their own insulin, and when they leave they are doing it all by themselves. The counselors do a great job to help their campers succeed. img_2203a.jpg

Camp ASCCA has many different activities to offer campers. Some children may be intimidated by a few of the activities like zip line or cargo net, but I haven’t seen anyone regret their accomplishment after they are done. The counselors are supportive and encourage campers the entire time.
