Alabama’s Special Camp for Children & Adults

Girls, girls, girls!

This afternoon, I had the chance to catch up with three campers at Seale Harris Junior Camp. Junior Camp is for campers with diabetes ages 6 to 12.

The campers shared with me the reasons they return to camp each year. Two campers have been to camp for three years, while the other has been for six. They enjoy activities such as canoeing and swimming, and according to one camper, the activities seem to get better every year!Three boys canoeing

The boys enjoy seeing the new and returning counseling staff and CIT’s. They also stress the importance of diabetes education and how it has taught them to live with their diabetes, and become independent. Thanks to Seale Harris, the boys believe they no longer have to rely on their parents to help them with their pumps and carb counting.

Of course, the boys also come to Seale Harris for another reason. Girls! Not only do they learn to live with diabetes, they get to mingle with girls. They said the love note box is a blast, and they like getting dates to the dance.

No matter the reason, they definitely think that other children with diabetes should come to Camp Seale Harris. It is obvious the boys have a great time during camp. Check out their entertaining interview here:
