2008 counselors have arrived!!
Camp ASCCA’s 2008 staff is sure to be great! Not only do we have counselors from all over the
United States, we have counselors from Europe!! The diversity and backgrounds of our staff are amazing.
The counselors arrived yesterday to begin their orientation week. The day began with introductions and a speaker from the Spina Bifida Association of Alabama.
Today, the counselors learned about first aid, camper transfers, program areas and emergency procedures. They are also getting to know one another during team building activities and games.
During the team building activities this afternoon, counselors started learning each other’s names, while developing good communication skills
and bonding. The team building started off with a game called “Find a Knee,” a partner game. After a few more games, the group began team building in the woods.
During these activities, the group learned that consistent communication between each staff member is imperative not only to the activities, but when the campers arrive as well. It is important for the staff to recognize and communicate all procedures and routines. Each activity the staff is doing promotes this idea.
After team building and orientation week, the staff will have developed a strong bond and the skills needed to run Camp ASCCA smoothly.
In an interview, William Parkhurst, a new staff member, discusses why he feels the team building activities are important. Check it out here:
