Staff orientation :: An interview with Lisa Meeder
Counseling staff has been busy this week! Staff have listened to speakers, visited each program area, practiced transfers and learned about wheelchairs.
Another area the counselors have been trained in is feeding and dressing techniques. Yesterday, they watched as unit leaders and head counselors demonstrated how to dress
campers. Then, the staff took turns dressing each other. They practiced how to dress a camper in different situations such as a camper with spastic Cerebral Palsy. Putting on diapers was also demonstrated.
After learning about different feeding techniques, counselors were put to the test. They paired off and practiced feeding each other lunch and dinner. Not only was learning to feed important, but it was important for counselors to experience being a camper. This way, they could understand how campers may feel while being fed.
In an interview, Lisa Meeder, a returning staff member, describes what the staff did yesterday during orientation. She emphasizes the importance of good communication, treating campers with dignity and respect, and discusses important tips that she learned.
