Unit leaders are excited for Teen Week!
Stuart Brown and Holly Stewart, returning staff members, were both excited yesterday as they were waiting for campers to arrive for Teen Week.
Teen week is a different week here at Camp ASCCA. It gives campers an opportunity to participate in a “homecoming week” that one might see in high school. There are themed days, pep rallies, and even a prom!
Holly and Stuart are both unit leaders; they serve as supervisors in the cabins and help the program staff and counselors with anything they may need.
I caught up with Stuart as he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the campers. Stuart believes that Teen Week is more meaningful to the campers. He is looking forward to getting to know our new campers as well as catching up with returning campers.
“Right now, everybody’s just kind of on tip toes. Everybody is waiting to see who all is going to show up,” said Stuart. “Everybody knows it’s going to be an all-star cast with our campers.”

I spoke with Holly as she was decorating her cabin for her campers. She has been waiting for the week all year, so she and the counselors wanted to create something special for them. Her cabin, Moundville, has been transformed into a palace, complete with crowns, princesses, and glitter.
Like most campers and counselors, Holly is looking forward to the prom.
“Just to see the happiness on their faces when they get to dress up and do the prom thing that they might not normally get to do,” said Holly. “That’s just a great memory in itself just to know that they’re getting to do something that really really means a lot to them.”
