Mobile Rotary Week is underway!

Session 5, Mobile Rotary Week, began with ASCCA’s staff traveling down to Mobile to pick up over 100 campers. The staff left on Saturday afternoon and spent the night in Mobile.
The next morning, the staff set up check-in at the Goodwill Easter Seals office, and anxiously awaited the arrival of one of camp’s favorite groups.
As the campers arrived at the office, staff members greeted both new and returning campers. Shrieks, laughter and yells could be heard from the parking lot as they recognized staff members from last year. During check-in, th
ey could be seen catching up with old friends and watching last year’s slideshow.
During my time with them, it became apparent that the friendships made at camp are everlasting. I even got to speak with a group of women who have been attending camp together for over 15 years!
The excitement could be felt everywhere as the campers waited to board the buses. The staff chartered three buses to bring each camper back on. Staff members helped them board the buses as family members waved good-bye. When the buses were filled, campers began cheering for camp!! 
Although the ride is five hours, it flew by! Campers played games, watched movies and chatted on the way. As soon as the first turn onto Camp ASCCA Drive was made, the campers were instantly awake and enthusiastic. At each curve and turn, campers would ask if we were there yet. They even counted down to the ASCCA gates!
In the following check-in day interviews, campers explained to me why they were excited to start camp. The video also includes the countdown and the counselors greeting the campers as they pulled into camp. Be sure to keep an eye out for more videos and interviews from Mobile Rotary Week!
