Samantha Trahan is one of Camp ASCCA’s returning counselors. She worked last summer and
says she fell in love! She fell in love with the campers, the campus and everything Camp ASCCA stands for. She made friends with other staff members and a lot of campers as well.
Samantha fell in love with Camp ASCCA the same way she saw so many campers do last summer. She said she saw how happy and excited the campers were on check-in day and how it seemed nobody wanted to leave on check-out day. She said the campers have such a loving nature toward Camp ASCCA that it just makes anyone want to be a part of the fun and excitement.
She also told me that a lot of campers have said Camp ASCCA is the only place they feel they can be a part of where they are not treated differently from others. That people here don’t look at the disability, and get past that difference to see the person or personality of the camper.
Samantha is one of our out of state counselors, coming to us from Louisiana. She found out about Camp ASCCA through one of her college professors at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. Her professor had only been to Camp ASCCA on retreats, but thought it would be an ideal place for Samantha to come and experience.
Since being a part of Camp ASCCA, Samantha has decided she would like to continue working with children and adults with disability throughout her future. Samantha said, “Camp ASCCA will always have a place in my heart.” She said it changed who she is and what she wants to do.
