Meet April Dark :: CIT turned counselor

For three years, April Dark was a counselor-in-training at Camp ASCCA.  This year, we were lucky enough to have April join our counseling staff.

April is a sophomore at Auburn University majoring in Elementary Education.

April is from Alexander City, so she has known about Camp ASCCA for quite some time because she lives not too far from it.  She had the opportunity to visit camp a few times throughout her years in school.  After her visits, she decided to become a CIT in 2005.

April has loved being a counselor this summer.

“It’s a lot different than i expected.  it’s a lot harder than I expected,” said April. “But it’s a lot more rewarding than I ever thought it would be.”

She said that her CIT experience definitely helped prepare her; however, it still did not prepare her for every aspect of camp.

As a counselor, April has become close with many campers throughout our six session so far.  Her happy attitude brings smiles to any camper she meets.  She said her favorite memory from the summer was the Prom because it was an amazing day for the campers.

April said the skills she has learned at camp will definitely be put to use in her future as a teacher.  She also said her time at camp has put her life into perspective.

“I’ve learned to never take the small things for granted,” said April.

We certainly enjoy April at camp, be sure to look for her in our picture from this summer.  For more from April, check out her interview here:
