Pi Kappa Phi Cycles through Camp ASCCA

The young Pi Kappa Phi fraternity men came through Camp ASCCA this past weekend, August 1-3, 2008, for a quick visit on the cycling journey. The Journey of Hope is a Push America cycling event that annually helps to support people with disabilities and otherJourney of Hope Cyclists leaving Camp ASCCA special needs. At the end of thier visit, the group presented Camp Director Matt Rickman with a cycling grant donation of $850.00. I was able to capture their ride out of camp at the Camp ASCCA gate early Sunday morning. The cyclists left in groups, so the picture shows just a handful. Thanks guys!

Here is a description of what the Pi Kappa Phi nationally philanthropy does and a little bit more about the Journey of Hope cycling event.

“Push America has been cycling all across the country on behalf of people with disabilities since 1988. Visiting over 30 different states, the men of Pi Kappa Phi reach out to communities, organizations, and people with disabilities through an exciting slate of events. The cycling events are carrying with them a message of acceptance and understanding for people with disabilities.

Journey of Hope is a 12,000-mile combined, Push America cycling event that takes 82 Pi Kappa Phis cycling on three different routes from San Francisco, CA and Seattle, WA to Washington D.C. Journey of Hope is the premier event Push America organizes that brings together over 100 communities and raises more than $500,000 on behalf of people with disabilities. The Journey of Hope also distributes more than 60 cycling events grants to partnering organizations in the cities visited.

What makes the Journey of Hope special is the programming the team participates in across the country. Each day, the team meets with some of the best organizations that supportMotto for Push America people with disabilities in America. The Journey of Hope is also educating over 2,500 children a year through innovative puppetry that shows children the abilities of people with disabilities (Kids on the Block Puppet Shows).”
