Camp ASCCA Journal - Therapeutic Recreation

After a few days of teasing you with suggestions, we now have the answer for you.

Say hello to our very own Yacht & Golf Club! The image to your right will give a little idea of the layout. It is not exact, by any means, but it does give you an idea of the possible layout. There will be seating areas around the ponds and a covered “Golf Club” for shade and water/juice during breaks.

Yep, no kidding. Now, the golf is putt putt and the ‘yachts’ are radio controlled (RC) boats. ;o) But, hey … it is golf and yachts! :o)

Essentially, this is one large oval broken into two ponds. The golf course surrounds the ponds and the RC boats will operate on the ponds. The golf course will be barrier-free allowing wheelchairs to easily navigate the 18 hole golf course.

Why RC boats, you ask? Well, think about it. Many of our campers have limited range of motion. Yet, they can drive their electric wheelchairs … and they do it with … joysticks! :o) Yep, just like the joysticks they’ll use to operate the boats.

So, here’s the video and a little (somewhat) tongue-in-cheek call for help. After all, we do have to pay for this. Won’t you help us, please! Each year, Camp ASCCA seeks to provide a new activity area for our campers. This is the one for 2009!
