Speaking Engagement Leads Allison’s Birth Nurse To Call
This news article certainly led to a unique phone call.
Continuing upon the previous post, Allison Wetherbee also recently spoke to the Foley Kiwanis club. The event was covered by the Mobile Press Register.
Well, an interesting experience came out of that.
One of the nurses present at Allison’s birth saw the photo and gave her a call. How cool is that, huh? Just shows you that the more you travel the state, the more opportunities you have to meet people, even from your past. Like, um … the first day of your past. ;o)
Here is a photo and caption from that Foley Kiwanis Club event.
Most of us have two arms, two hands, ten fingers and two legs, two feet and ten toes. Allison Wetherbee was born with no limbs, so she has none of these. She has earned a Masters Degree, without hands and fingers to write or turn pages of books, and with no legs to take her to class. Allison took time from her busy schedule as Director of Public Relations for Camp ASCCA to speak to Foley Kiwanis Club. Easter Seals Camp ASCCA is Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults. Located on Lake Martin, Camp ASCCA serves people with disabilities year round. Allison told Kiwanians about the possibilities Camp ASCCA opens up to campers with disabilities in a therapeutic recreational environment. More information about serving people with disabilities can be obtained on their website www.campascca.org or by calling 1-800-THE-CAMP. It is the world’s largest camp providing therapeutic recreation for children and adults with disabilities, and it is right here in Alabama. Pictured in photo is Kiwanis Treasurer Liz Garner, Allison Wetherbee, and Kiwanis President Alan Barnes. Kiwanis meets Tuesdays Noon at Ryan’s in Foley. Those interested in attending Kiwanis can call Alan Barnes at 968-6288.
Camp ASCCA has a new site! ASCCA Friends. It is our own personal social media network.
