A Visit to Southern Union State Community College
A few weeks ago I received an email from a former roommate that made my day. Last winter, Mikki Clay helped me move and get settled at Camp ASCCA as my roommate/attendant. She moved away in the summer to start college. Since living on my own with the help of attendants most of my life, I rarely get the pleasure of keeping in touch with them through the years. So, hearing from Mikki and finding her doing well in college was a joy!
Mikki also gave me the honor of asking me to speak with one of her psychology classes. According to Mikki’s professor Kelly Cooper, Mikki has been speaking very highly of me in her classes at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika, Alabama. Based solely on Mikki’s recommendation, professor Cooper invited me to speak to not just one, but three of her classes in a row! So, I was a little hoarse last Thursday after speaking with three classes, but it was worth it. Several students expressed interest in working with Camp ASCCA as a staff member in the future and one student in a wheelchair expressed interest in attending.
Thank you to Mikki Clay and professor Kelly Cooper for allowing me to present Camp ASCCA to your peers and students. Seeing Mikki again, and meeting everyone there, was my pleasure.
