2019 Judy Williams Scholarship Recipient

The Judy Williams Scholarship is given each year to a summer staff member chosen based on his or her energy and enthusiasm during work, quality of care for campers and resiliency through a hot Alabama summer. The recipient is selected by the leadership staff that is made up of unit leaders and a head counselor, and he or she is later presented with a scholarship of $500. Judy Williams is a donor, volunteer and former staff member who continues to serve and support Camp ASCCA in a variety of ways since the start of Camp in 1976. The scholarship was first given out in 2014.

Zach and Daniel

At the end of Session 6, Camp Director Matt Rickman had the honor of presenting the Judy Williams Scholarship to the award’s sixth recipient, Counselor Zach Rickman. Zach is a Jackson’s Gap native, a Dadeville High School graduate and he grew up right here at Camp ASCCA. He has served three previous summers as a Counselor-In-Training and Senior Counselor-In-Training. This was Zach’s first summer as a counselor, and he even had the chance to work as a member of the Program Staff for a week. Zach was selected as this year’s recipient based on his hard work, devotion and kindness towards every camper that he encounters. Our best summers would not be possible without our summer staff, and staff members like Zach change the game and often raise our summer success to a new level.

At the end of the summer, Zach will be attending Auburn University to begin working towards a degree in Computer Science. Zach joins the list of Judy Williams Scholarship recipients, and it’s full of incredible summer staff members. The list of recipients includes Gordon Warner, Brett Gray, Christian Thomason, Matt Smith and Lance Chayka.
