5 ways to prepare for an ASCCA summer

A summer at Camp ASCCA is a summer you will never forget. So many of our summer staff members and campers can confirm that it is a place that you will call your home away from home. As we get closer to a new summer, we want to make sure that you are prepared. Begin your #ASCCA2020 prep with these five tips.

While we know that we are living in an uncertain time, we are hopeful that we will get to see you all this summer. We will provide updates as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

1. Start planning outfits

We may be a few months away from the start of Summer 2020, but that does not mean you cannot begin preparing your outfits for summer. There is a packing list available on the website under “Camper Resources” and a list of themes for the summer. If you are new to Camp, each session has its own theme, and we all do our best to dress up with our cabinmates at least one day during the week. It is never too early to make sure you are looking your best all session long.

2. Practice your “Jump On It” moves

Dancing to the Sugarhill Gang’s song “Apache” is a mealtime staple each session, and it is a moment during the day where everyone at camp is together in one place. At the end of a meal, many campers will make the song request and get the party started before everyone leaves for another round of programs. You can begin practicing your moves by taking a look at one mealtime dance session from a couple summers ago.

3. Prepare for the talent show

From playing the banjo to singing hits by the Backstreet Boys, a Camp ASCCA talent show is full of fun and exciting performances. Occasionally, we even have friends who share their talents as magicians and comedians. Whatever your talent is, we will have a spot for you on the ASCCA stage, so go ahead and start planning your performances today. We cannot wait to see your skills!

4. Brush up on your dance moves

Anywhere you go at Camp, there is a good chance that someone is dancing, especially at our outdoor concerts and evening dances. Every summer, there are new dance moves to learn and share with our friends. From trending dances on TikTok to older hits like “Cha Cha Slide,” the moves will find you. Visit our Youtube Channel to dance along with some of our past summer concerts.

5. Get ready to make new friends

Last but not least, one of the most amazing parts of Camp ASCCA is that we have the opportunity to make so many new friends each week. You will get to be close with your cabinmates, group friends, and the summer staff. The friendships made here are unforgettable and last a lifetime. We have put together our weekly slideshows to give you a view of the many smiling faces and friendships from Summer 2019.
