For one of tonight’s Evening Activities, campers from Moundville, Chickasaw, Crow, Choctaw and Davis Cabins participated in our first Science Fair of the summer! Campers were split into teams according to their cabins and were responsible for assembling and decorating their own Marshmallow Catapults!
Session 2 kicked off with a pool party for Cheaha, Redstick, Cherokee, and Creek cabins. Campers this week crowded around the basketball goals to play against each other and their counselors. Those not playing basketball enjoyed floating and talking to everyone.
Welcome back to Camp ASCCA for Session #2! Everyone is so excited to be here! A line of campers and their families formed outside of the dining hall as Camp Director Matt Rickman had his weekly opening meeting with counselors, counselors in training (CITs) and program staff. Once the meeting was over, the Camp ASCCA staff went to their designated positions and got ready to start the week!

The last full day of Camp ASCCA Session #1 has come and gone! Campers and counselors spent the morning and part of the afternoon enjoying their favorite activities for the last time this week. As the sun began to go down, groups began to head towards the cabin to get ready for the evening activity–the dance!
Today, campers got to participate our new Panning for Gold activity during their afternoon Free Choice rotations. Located behind the arts and crafts building, everyone got to enjoy the scenery while searching for precious “jewels” like Red Rubies, Blue Sapphire, White Ivory and more!
While waiting for their scheduled time at horseback riding, zip tower, or boat rides, campers went to a free choice activity of their choosing like archery. Our Shooting Sports Director Leah Tingle brought out all three of ASCCA’s types of bows: the compound bow, the adapted bow, and our new crossbow.
Campers showcased their gifts at the very first talent show of the summer! It was also the first talent show held in the new OutPost. In previous years, talent shows were held in Lion’s Lodge, but the tiki-bar scenery of the OutPost was perfect for the occasion, making it much more intimate and entertaining.
“Giddy-up!” “Go!” and “Start!” are the most common ways that our campers use to get Skip, the horse, going around the equestrian ring. This is one of the most loved activities by campers. Some campers ask their couselors to sign them up for this everytime there are evening free choice activities.
Fourth of July celebrations began bright and early as campers and counselors showed up in their finest patriotic attire at flag raising. Morning rotations continued as usual, but the real celebration began at dinner!
