Program Staff Interns at Camp ASCCA

At Camp ASCCA each of our activities is run by trained program staff who plan, organize and lead daily programs. This year at camp, we have 15 people on program staff including two interns.

Program staff interns have the opportunity to work closely with staff to figure out what programs will be successful. They greet groups, explain the rules and safety procedures, then assist in operating the given activity, all while earning college credit toward their respective degrees.

At camp, program staff is divided into categories; adventure, aquatics, farm, fishing, horseback, nature, shooting sports and sports and games. Our interns act as program staff, Joel Langley specializes in sports and games, and Samantha Peckham is acting as a floater, getting experience in each of the different programs. Both of our interns are seniors at the University of South Alabama.

At Camp ASCCA, interns serve a special role. Not only are they here to make camp a great experience for the campers, but they use their classroom knowledge and apply it to the “real world” and gain a lasting experience from camp. Our own Matt Rickman served as a therapeutic recreation intern before graduating from the State University of West Georgia.

Be sure to look out for our Meet the Program Staff Interns blog to learn more about Joel and Samantha.

And don’t forget to check out Flickr to see our campers enjoying all of the activities run by our program staff.
