Over the weekend, Camp ASCCA proudly hosted its annual Rookie Weekend—a special event designed to welcome first-time campers and their families for an unforgettable introduction to the magic of ASCCA. This tradition has continued to grow over the years, and 2025’s weekend was no exception.
Friday evening kicked things off as we welcomed many new faces to the campgrounds. Members of our summer staff were on hand to give guided tours and answer questions, helping families feel right at home. Once everyone settled in, we gathered in the Dining Hall for dinner, followed by an energetic and inclusive dance! Our staff didn’t hold back on the dance floor, creating a fun, welcoming environment that helped break the ice and spark new friendships.
Saturday brought a full day of adventure. We began with our traditional morning flag raising, where campers joined our staff to help lead the Pledge of Allegiance, share a morning joke, an inspirational quote, and bless the food—just like we do every day in the summer.
Then it was time for activities! Campers and families jumped into a morning of free-choice fun, including the zipline, fishing, boat rides, canoeing, slingshots, and more guided tours. After lunch and some well-earned rest, the afternoon picked back up with more free-choice activities, this time featuring water fun! Campers cooled off at the pool, splash pad, tubing, and water slide, while others enjoyed archery, arts & crafts, and shaved ice at the OutPost.
To end the day, the OutPost transformed into a stage for our talent show! Campers brought their A-game, showcasing a variety of talents, and even our staff joined in on the fun. The laughter, applause, and cheers made for a perfect end to an action-packed day.
As the saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” and Sunday morning arrived in the blink of an eye. But the fun wasn’t over yet! Campers joined our staff at the BcK4T to play games, hang out, and watch a movie, while parents stayed behind for a Q&A session with Camp Director Matt Rickman and Program Director Amber Cotney.
Rookie Weekend 2025 was truly one for the books. It’s an honor to welcome new families into the ASCCA family and share the spirit of camp with them. More than an introduction, this weekend marked the beginning of lifelong memories.
